Tikki Tikki Tembo
By Arlene Mosel; 1968
Summary: This is a story about two brothers named, Chang and Tikki tikki tembo-no sa rembo-chari bari ruchi-pip peri pembo. One day Chang falls into a well they were playing by. Tikki Tikki Tembo runs to get help from their mother and the Old Man with a ladder. Chang is rescued. The boys later play near the well again and this time Tikki Tikki Tembo falls in. Will Chang be able to get help in time? Will he be able to recite Tikki’s full name fast enough to save Tikki?
My Review: My grandmother use to tell my siblings and I this story when we would come to visit, so it has always been a special story to me.I love to recite Tikki tikki tembo’s full name over and over again with a sing-songy voice, it cracks me up every time. This is a tale that comes with a lesson. Don’t give your children long names! Think of the well situation! But this is a fun book and children will enjoy Tikki’s long name and Chang’s struggle to get help.
Watch Out For: scary situations, ancient customs.
