Divergent

Divergent
By Veronica Roth; Katherine Tegen Books 2011

Summary: In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series--dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

My Review: OMIGOSH! While I was gone away to a foreign country for a year this marvelous book came out and I just barely got around to reading it. I couldn't put it down. I was so addicted and drawn to this book. Way to go Veronica Roth! I was really interested in the five factions and how people were divided. It kinda made me think about which faction I would choose. The training and decision process the kids went into to find their faction was beyond fascinating. I seriously enjoyed every minute of it.

Beatrice/Tris has made it to the list of heroines who kick trash! She is a tiny not so pretty girl who has this determination about her. She is determined to succeed and do her best to prove her self. To prove that she is not weak or like anybody else. She is someone people can really look up too. At times she really doubted herself, but she uses her bravery and selflessness to protect others.

This is an exciting dystopian thriller which has a sense of originality and it way addictive. Read it if you dare!

Watch Out For: Some kissing, drinking, violence, death, fighting, assault, and one incident of  suicide.

Enders Game

 Ender's Game
By Orson Scott Card; Tor Books 1985

Summary: It is the Earth's future and so far humankind has survived two conflicts with the Formics, an alien race also known as the Buggars. An international fleet maintains a school to find and train future fleet commanders, in preparation for a third invasion. The most talented children are taken to a training center known as the Battle School. Teachers train them in the arts of war through difficult games.
Andrew "Ender" Wiggin's is selected for training at Battle School. He is extremely talented and intelligent, but tormented with isolation and ridicule by others. Could Ender be the one that will save humankind from the Buggars?

My Review: I fell madly in love with this book. It has been recommended to me for years and I have rejected it because I thought it looked weird and it was old, but I was wrong on so many accounts. This is a very well written book. It keeps you on your toes as you watch Ender go through struggles and trails. I thought that Ender was one of the most complex characters I have ever read about. He is someone who is so good and compassionate, but often finds himself put in bad situations. He doesn't mean to hurt others, but they give him no choice, but to defend himself. I highly highly recomend this book. Boys will love it! And if you are a girl like me who loves science fiction, suspense, and action, you will love this book.

Watch Out For: Deaths, torture, nudity, violent adults and children, swearing,

That Adoration of Jenna Fox

The Adoration of Jenna Fox
By Mary E. Pearson; Henry Holt and Company 2008

Summary:Who is Jenna Fox? Seventeen-year-old Jenna has been told that is her name. She has just awoken from a coma, they tell her, and she is still recovering from a terrible accident in which she was involved a year ago. But what happened before that? Jenna doesn't remember her life. Or does she? And are the memories really hers?

My Review: After waking up from a year long coma, Jenna Fox finds herself very lost and confuse on how her situation came to be. How is it that she can remember things in history, but nothing about herself or her life? She watches home videos and remembers a few things about her past, but something just isn't right.

Ahhh! This is an exciting gripping novel with suspense and mystery. This is definitely a sci-fi book because it takes place is the near future. There are ideas that are brought in this book are so intriguing and unique. I know that Mary E. Pearson has quality books because the book Scribbler of Dreams (I still need to review that one)  This books is fascinating and kept me wanting more and more. Just read it!

Watch Out For: Violence, brief language, flashbacks, natural disasters, some kissing, and drinking
